From Mountain Lover to Hands-On Host
I've been coming to Mammoth since the early 1980s and have always loved the area and everything it offers anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
In 2011, after a one-year layoff from a longtime career in construction management, I decided to take a chance and purchase my first Mammoth condo, Mountain Shadows D7. I had no idea whether it would work as a vacation rental, but I've always believed there's no reward without taking some risk.
It worked.
I purchased another Mammoth property each year for the next three years and eventually built a portfolio of four properties of my own. Three are operated as short-term rentals, while the fourth is a long-term rental that also helps provide housing for the local community.
After years of successfully managing my own properties, I decided to offer the same hands-on management to other Mammoth owners. The business has grown almost entirely through relationships and referrals. One of the first owners to hire me was a longtime friend and Mammoth neighbor. Others were former guests who had stayed in my properties and told me that if they ever purchased a Mammoth condo of their own, they wanted me to manage it.
Eventually, they did—and they remembered.
Today I manage my own rentals along with a small portfolio of properties for other Mammoth owners. I intentionally keep the portfolio manageable so I can remain directly involved with the properties, the owners and, when necessary, the guests. This isn't a large management company where an owner becomes an account number. When something needs attention, I'm the person involved in getting it taken care of.
My background in construction management also gives me a practical understanding of property maintenance, repairs and improvements—something that comes in handy when you're responsible for homes in a mountain environment.
After more than 40 years of coming to Mammoth, I still love being here. Now I get to share a little of that experience with the people who stay in the properties I own and manage.
